Oppo-inion: Which car company has the most complete performance line-up?

Which car company ticks the most boxes in their line up? Volkswagen Auto Group doesn’t count simply because the individual marquees are encouraged to remain as much autonomy as possible. So in sticking with one marquee only, who gives the most variety for the enthusiast? If you could only have one for the rest of your life, who would you pick?

I’m torn between Mercedes and Ford.

Ford only really lacks an upper end in terms of line up (no S-class, SL, AMG-GT or anything really over $100K except the Ford GT)

Kinja'd!!!

Mercedes lacks a lower end though (no cheap fun like the ST’s, RS or Mustang) and most importantly no trucks.

Kinja'd!!!

Chevy and their badge siblings are close but Cadillac has become different enough that it is hard to put them in with the rest of the GM crew. GM also lacks a upper end in performance and nothing cheaper than a Camaro gets the SS treatment.

As much as I hate to say this, it’s Audi. They currently make an S3, S4, S5, RS5, S6, S7, RS7, S8, TTS, R8, and SQ5.

It is way more difficult than it should be to find a picture of multiple AMG models, you think Merc-AMG would be flaunting it at this point

They lack the performance end completely, no hot hatch, no muscle car, no supra, etc. Plus no luxo grand touring car either

Aston Martin. They only make RWD V12s and V8s. Pretty good, eh?

Ooh that’s a good one! They lack an SL and S coupe fighter but they make for it with the S3 actually being a reasonable price.

The RCF is a more of a luxury GT car though.

FCA:

- Wrangler

- Abarth

Maybe in sheer volume ford might not be number one but I think they’re giving the enthusiasts pretty much exactly what we want with every car (and truck) so it's hard to argue against them.

If Aston Martin made a hot hatch or muscle car fighter I’d agree with you more.

Something like these

Running the numbers in my head, they were the top. Some others have a decent mix, but nobody else has that many performance variants. The next closest is either Mercedes AMG or BMW (but their product line is such a train wreck that I can no longer spot distinct models).

If I was up for paying twice what I did for my car or getting on the lease hamster wheel, I’d be driving an S4...

I’d have to go with GM. I certainly don’t find their top end lacking. If you include the Vauxhall/Opel VXR’s that for whatever damn reason they don’t sell in the States, they’d have a complete lineup from

Fun cheap hatch - Sonic

Hot hatch - VXR’s

Muscly sports car - 6th gen Camaro

GT - Corvette Stingray, ATS Vsport, ATS-V, CTS-V

Track car - Camaro Z/28

Supercar - Corvette Z06

They’re missing a performance street truck, but I’m holding out. The Cheyenne concept was pretty cool:

Kinja'd!!!

The downside is that it’s not lifted enough to use as a tax-deductible trailer-hauler and mobile billboard for your lawn care company, bro.

they have a hatch...maybe not hot.
and no supra YET.
but they have hybrids, minivans, body on frame SUvs and small SUV, (RAV4, highlander, land cruiser) pick ups, that weird venza thing (is it still made?) and the FRS.

No ONE company is going to have everything. but i think toyota comes the closest

Kinja'd!!! FastIndy > bob and john
09/19/2015 at 00:56

Right. So that’s

Fun cheap hatch - Sonic

Hot hatch - VXR’s

Muscly sports car - 6th gen Camaro

GT - Corvette Stingray, SS, ATS Vsport, ATS-V, CTS-V

Track car - Camaro Z/28

Supercar - Corvette Z06

Eh. I’ll still take Chevy. And I think it will only be a year or two until we see a truly hot version of the Sonic.

You got it with Mercedes. A friend of mine likes to joke that Mercedes has 50 different models but he has no idea what any of them are. And almost every single one has an AMG variant.

More of a joke, but it’s probably my favorite current MB right now due to it being completely bonkers and even more so pointless. Plus, most reviews make it sound like an older sudden death turbo car, which sounds fun.

I agree with Mercedes, their performance models run the gamut. Everything from the GLA to the SLS electric to the G-Wagon. Ford lacks true performance full size 4 door (outside of Australia at least). The SHO is cool though.

Lol true. I guess. I still have a hard time picturing Germans with a sense of humor. As far as I know the only niche they’re missing is the crossover convertible segment, like a murano crosscab.

Ford doesn’t have an S Class but it does have (or rather very shortly will) the Mondeo (U.S. Fusion) Vignale which is a luxury spec of the Mondeo. With an eye on making a Kuga Vignale and a Galaxy (though more likely to be an S-Max rather than the Galaxy) Vignale.

So ye’, I think Ford take it really with cars going from Fiesta base model to GT by way of B-Max, Ecosport, Focus, C-Max, Kuga and Mondeo and for vans from Fiesta van to the large F750 truck.

I wouldn’t consider the S class a perfromance vehicle. Plus Ford doesn’t really make amy thing that expensive anyway except the GT. But by the same token if that’s the game we want to play neither company has a Bugatti competitor.

It’s almost a new class of “Supercar Killers” It’s a conventional FMR RWD layout but it post better times than most exotic mid-engined cars.
